Tip of the Month - Customer information worksheet
1. Customer’s name, address,
city, state, zip, phone (home, work, cell).
2. Dates: Quote done, Quilt
promised, Quilt completed, Quilt Picked up or shipped.
3. Quilting description: Here I
make notes about the quilt top and what designs are planned for each area of the
quilt top. I use the back of the worksheet if I need additional space.
4. Itemize the costs for:
a. Quilting – cost is based on
the designs described above
b. Thread – specify the charges
for the brand and color choice made
c. Batting – specify the charges
for the brand & density selected.
d. Backing – specify any charges
for the fabric, seaming, etc.
e. Binding – specify the charges
for applying the binding.
f. Special handling – specify the
charges for any / all special handling which includes (but not limited to)
applying edge strips, applying hanging sleeve, turning charges, Design Center
medallions, new pattern purchases / development, rush order.
5. Is the quilt going to be
entered into a competition? If I know this, I can make recommendations about
things that judges look for – quilting density, tie-off knots, bindings, SID,
etc.
6. What type of markers can I
use? Some people feel strongly about the use of air erasable marking pens or
water soluble marking pens.
7. My worksheet has a space for
subtotaling all the charges (listed above). The sales tax, shipping/insurance
costs and the grand total for the job are calculated later.
8.Finally, I have an area for
signatures (mine and theirs) which indicate acceptance of the terms and details
included. We both sign and date the worksheet, and the customer gets a copy.
One last suggestion –
When I ship quilts back to a customer, I always insure them and I require a
delivery signature. I also explain that it is not safe to ship ‘Quilts’ these
days – so their package will be marked “Baby Clothes” ! I hope this helps
your business! Pat Berry Wisconsin
